Of all the options available for low slope residential or commercial roofs, modified bitumen products are among the best for many projects. According to the Whole Building Design Guide, modified bitumen membranes are a sturdy and easily repaired option with a robust track record. Compared to other low slope roofing options, modified roofing products give contractors, building owners and homeowners aesthetic and practical options. TRI-BUILT recently upgraded its portfolio of modified bitumen products to give contractors and their customers even more choices.

Low Slope Modified Bitumen Roofing Products

The TRI-BUILT low slope roofing products family includes four main modified bitumen products:

  • TRI-BUILT Granulated Torch.
  • TRI-BUILT Smooth Torch.
  • TRI-BUILT SA (self-adhered).
  • TRI-BUILT SBS (hot asphalt or cold adhesive).

Each product offers the protection you expect from modified bitumen products, with a few added benefits, such as the option to choose a color that coordinates with an adjacent steep slope roof.

When Should You Use TRI-BUILT Modified Roofing Products?

TRI-BUILT modified bitumen membranes can work for both new construction and re-roofing projects. Since the membranes are designed for use on low slope roofs, they are well suited for a few specific kinds of residential buildings. You might recommend TRI-BUILT modified bitumen products to residential customers who own row houses or town houses. Another option is to recommend the products to property managers or owners of multifamily homes or condominiums.

How Can You Get Customers on Board?

You want your customers to be happy, both with the roofing products you offer them and the quality of your installation. If you're working with customers on a low slope roofing project, there are a few ways to convince them that TRI-BUILT products are the ones to choose.

If the customer has both a steep slope roof with asphalt shingles and an adjacent low slope roof, such as over a porch or garage, you can point out that TRI-BUILT modified bitumen membranes are designed to coordinate with the most popular shingle colors. Modified bitumen membranes come in seven colors that match slate, shakes or colored asphalt. There's even a white option for customers interested in a cool roof.

Clients may also want to know that they're in good hands in the event of any product questions down the road. SA, SBS and granulated torch products all have a 12-year warranty. Smooth torch products come with a 10-year warranty.

Installation Tips for Modified Roofing Products

TRI-BUILT's family of modified bitumen products gives your roofing company multiple installation options. SA products are self-adhesive, meaning they have a reduced insurance requirement compared to torch-applied products. They are also easier to install with a smaller team on the roof, and have a non-existent risk of fire.

Although self-adhering products are convenient and reliable in some cases, there are times when a torch application is more appropriate. Avoid installing torch-applied modified bitumen in cold weather unless your crew knows how to handle materials properly to avoid breakage, and follows all appropriate fire safety precautions.

With TRI-BUILT modified bitumen, you have the option of providing your customers with the right materials, installed the best way for their specific roof and needs.
